Default Spring update

This was the coldest winter I have ever experienced here. All my plants were left in ground unprotected. I did try to wrap some plants but my new puppy would did not understand this and kindly unwrapped all of them. I know now that a five foot Raja puri provides a fun game of Tug-o-war. But in the end puppy wins.

So all stalks died to the ground. Saba did leave a ten foot statue but they we're mush inside.

First up this year was basjoo and this is a first in my yard. I have never been able to grow a basjoo over a few feet. Maybe the cold weather helped who knows but there already almost as tall as I have ever had here..

Shortly after basjoo, Saba and raja puri came up.
I should note that basjoo came up around 2nd week of April and Saba and raja a couple weeks after.

To my surprise. Gold finger has survived and pushed out about a week ago. I expected to loose this one for sure.

All orinocos and namwahs are up now.

I had a giant Matt of black Thai that is probably gone. It was in a area that holds water with some other matts of orinocos. Nothing in this area has come back. Most likely to standing water that froze in extended cold weather.

Will also add to this that there will be no loquat cobbler this year. No trees in my area have fruit. I had flowers and fruit but they all dropped.

Interesting. What kind of temperature did you experience? I know that this winter has been a nightmare for USA, but i also think that it must have also provided some valuable data.
It's a bummer when you have to restart from the corm but nice corms grow very quick so hopefully you will finish this summer with at least some of your plant that have recovered almost everything they have lost in this winter.
