Shazam! 32F in the Dirty South!

Just wondering if anyone out there doesn't trim their basjoo's back to the ground? Mine is in a relatively obscure location and it doesn't really matter what it looks like over the winter, so I'm considering just leaving it alone, aside from adding some additional mulch.

I have some buddies who let them go naturally in the fall and they do most of the mat cleanup in the spring. And others like the nice and tidy look and cut them after the first hard frost.
Same end result... do it now or do it later. Currently mine are all wilted from the low nighttime temps and will be cut soon.
I wish they had more visual winter interest or I would leave them up.

Last winter I did nothing (no cutting) but dumped more greenhouse waste on them. I thought that I had lost them because of the cold winter (which did seem to discourage fruiting on my tender kiwis), and bought a cheap replacement. Two weeks later two stalks emerged from the original plant and got up to the second story by August.

I'm keeping my eye on a couple of locations that left them up. One did nothing and the others trimmed back to 1-2'. It'll be interesting to see which ones emerge first and/or grow the fastest. It's on benefit of driving past the same several thousand houses every week, LOL.
