Interesting photos. Even the one labeled as normal basjoo isn't as yellow as most I have seen.

I have noticed that regular basjoo flower colors differ quite a bit between the commonly available regular basjoo clone. I have seen some regular basjoo flowers that look really similar to your sakkilin, maybe light exposure plays a part.

What I've always seen is the yellow flower. Does that mean mine is Sakhalin?

Nate show a photo of all plant completely. At Sakhalin Basjoo, leaves should be wider, than at usual. And they differ under the form.

Hi Tony
I was thinking the other day that could the variations in flower colour be down to pH levels in the soil?

There could be any number of reasons for the normal basjoo flower to be more red in appearance, and pH could certainly play a role, but I don't know that for a fact. Light, temperature, pH, who knows what else. It could even be a "sport," or a spontaneous mutation. While most Musa basjoo available is the same clone, and hence theoretically all are genetically identical, plants have the capability to mutate on their own.

Steve, I think Frank may have something there, its most likely that the two basjoo flowers I posted are genetic mutations, that is one of them are, they are both planted not very far from each other, about 8ft so, I would guess the ph is the same. Hear is a pic of both of them and you can see that there not very far away from each other my dads is directly in front and his neighbours is to the right just over the fence, sorry the pic. Isn’t very good.

Triple blooms, one mat. Didn't get a close up but they were very brown with streaks at a different stage of flowering.
