New Greenhouse -- With Bananas In It -- And Other Pics!
Yesterday when I set it up...
Left side of greenhouse. Bananarama! Right side of greenhouse. Tons of cannas of various varieties on top and flower seed flats on bottom! It was 76 with a dewpoint of 71 in my greenhouse earlier this afternoon ... while only 50 outside!! Trachycarpus fortunei looking great!! Not even minor damage to the emerging spear. Last year I had the yellow ring of damage on first two fronds. This year two fronds have pushed out already and both look pristine! This thing is gonna get huge this year!! It was planted in July, 2008. Other trachycarpus fortunei looking great too! No spear damage either! It was planted in June, 2010. Trachycarpus wagnerianus that I planted back in March. Looking in top shape! Rhododendron flower buds getting HUGE. Yucca color guard came through with flying colors. These will explode this year too. They were just tiny strap leaf seedlings last spring. Perennial bed filling in! |

Nice pics! Everything is really starting to fill in! Im sure once the bananas are planted in the ground for the year things will really start looking tropical again! The bananas are starting the year off at a pretty nice size!

Thanks! Most of them were overwintered bare root in the basement. I brought them into the house in March and started them up. If I would have had the greenhouse then they wouldn't have brown leaf edges from our dry desiccating spring winds!

My banana plants also have a hard time adjusting to the dry spring sun. Its all forgiven once summer really gets going!
