I finally decided that one of my basjoo wasn't coming up. Didn't know why, I mulched it just the same as the others. It looked like it'd made it. It still had a mushy stump there, not a "hole of death". But it just wasn't growing anything at all. So I planted another one a few feet away from it.
Went to the mailbox today, and behold, there's a pup coming up from the one I gave up on. Actually 2 of them about 4" tall. So they didn't come up until around June 10th. That's the latest I've seen one come up here yet.

I never give up on any banana. I overwinter at least 5 different varieties that I dig out of the ground and they all look bad in the spring time and I am amazed they grow back each summer. Never give up.

I intentionally tried to kill a small stand of M. basjoo. It didn't work. They're bullet proof.
Cheers, Barrie. |

I have noticed their tough demeanor as well. I have dug several up to give to friends and not multiple pups have emerged around where the former plants were.

I swear you guys aren't going to believe this, but I mowed the yard yesterday and now there's 6 pups!
And the last one can't be over an inch tall so that means it just came up and it's June 21st. That's the latest I've ever seen one come up here.
