my ensete glaucum seed has sprouted!
i have been trying to germinate this seed for 3 months and it finally sprouted this week! i had scored the seed with a soft sand paper (3M p-500) or about the same as a nail file finish side. and soaked it in water over night and then planted in a 3in pot with miricle grow seed starting soil. i soaked the dirt initially and then put it on top of my water heater. i watered it about every 10 days but a coupple of times i forgot and the soil completelly dryed out.
well it at last germinated and has sprouted a little white stalk with roots. any advice for helping this one along in to adult hood?? |

Re: my ensete glaucum seed has sprouted!
watch your watering real carefully. Not too wet, not too dry. Bright light and warm temps. Not much fertilizer at the first, only like 50 ppm. very weak!
Overwater them a few times and they're goners at that size

Cazieman, good luck with your seedling. Give it plenty of TLC.

Re: my ensete glaucum seed has sprouted!
i had noticed the shoot was white(was in dark) and since i moved it to a window it has greened up and you can start to see the leaf split in the shoot.
thanks for the advice! |

Congrats Cazieman - I'm hoping to get some seed of this Ensete soon, so hopefully I'll be able to get some to germinate too, as it's a beautiful nana!
Thanks, take care Pete |
