Musa BasjooXhybridum

here is that banana selled in a french nursery as an hybrid from Basjoo and musaXparasidiaca ...What do you think of it?

I don't know what it is, but it doesn't look like a basjoo.
maybe its still too young to see if it is the real basjooxparadisica?

I think it definatly has a basjoo look to it. Basjoo is supposed to hybridize with M.balbisiana easily, so it wouln't be that hard to imagine it's a paradisica hybrid. I'm going to try to hybridize a black balbisiana with my basjoo if I can get the timing right.

It looks very similar to a plant I bought in a local garden centre in the UK, they are selling them as normal basjoo, I was told it had come from Holland, you don’t suppose the Dutch could of tc it do you?.

I don't really think it looks much like Musa basjoo. The petioles are quite flared on Musa basjoo, and almost closed on that one. The leaf bases are also acuminate on M. basjoo, whereas they are rounded on yours. The pseudostem on M. basjoo has no wax, your does, etc. If M. basjoo is a parent, the other parent is definitely the predominant phenotype.

Tony, that is definitely not Musa basjoo. Looks more like Musa balbisiana to me.

Stick it in the ground and see what happens!

My first thought was balbisiana too frank, I’ll leave it out but I reckon it will be compost by spring. I have another banana I would like your opinion on frank, Its from India and is named chini champa but it doesn’t look anything like a chini champa I grow several years ago, it’s a nice looking banana though. I wont hijack this thread I’ll start a new one.
