Musa basjoo leaves drooping
 

Hi all, I have a musa basjoo in a big pot outside. It seems to be growing very well, 1 1/2 leaves per week and even started sprouting a pup. My concern is that during the day the leaves will droop down or fold from the center spine of the leaf. I water it very often and even check the soil with a moisture meter and it’s never dry. Once the sun goes down leaves perk back up again. Is this normal or should I be giving it more water? Thanks

folding leaves during the hot part of the day is the way they work. their way of trying to stay cool.

over watering a banana in a pot wont help with that a will eventually kill the banana from root rot. best to let your pot go near dry and then water. many bananas have past away in pots from too much love

leaves that folds the petiole/mid rib could be over watering. could be but not necessarily so.

Yea the top leaves fold from the center spine which makes sense that it’s normal to protect the plant from heat. I noticed the bottom leaves seemed to droop down from the center spine curving down. I did some inspecting and found spider mites on the two lower leaves. I cut those leaves off and cleaned the other leaves. And I’m going to limit the waterings. Any tips on keeping the spider mites away?
