Question Is Musa Basjoo "hardy banana" stalk edible?

I am new to the forum but having growing these beautiful tropical plants for the last 3 summers. I have a Vietnamese friend who would like my banana stalks as he said the banana tree is edible. I explained this was not the "typical" banana tree and did not know if it was edible. Does anyone have any insight in this?

Thank you!

Interesting .... I knew the flower bud and the leaves were eatable. But, I would have thought the stalk would have been stringy and tough since those fibers are used to make manila rope and fabric. ...humm ... must be the upper end, new growth part of the stalk that is tender enough to eat.

Thanks for the info.

Actually the flowers are edible.

The leaves can be used to wrap and steam foods.

The Pstem once dried and teased apart makes great cord to tie up your tomatoes and plants

The stem does taste nasty though.
