Musa Basjoo - fungus problem

I posted earlier on how to handle the reduced growth of banana plants when taken indoor. I thought the only problem was over-watering.

But the main musa basjoo mother plant is dying due to fungus issue though the pups attached to the plant are not extremely affected by this issue.

Is there a way to save the rhizome of the basjoo plant? any cheap fungicide or any ideas?

I'm not sure if I can wait until late spring to replace the potted soil.

btw, the main SDC plant died completely due to the same fungus problem.

My SDC did the same thing...stopped growing, proceeded to lose all its leaves while showing white mold on the stem. The main plant is done-for now, but it has a very healthy pup growing steadily that was completely unaffected. Not sure what the story is with that. Hopefully someone will chime in here with some info. I just kinda assume that the big plant was unable to tolerate the transition to less light and fewer hours of light per day.

Thanks LilraverBoi for your response. My SDC exactly did the same thing whatever you have mentioned. The SDC pup is growing well and it looks as if it sucked all the growth from its mother.

But the SDC pup that I planted individually in a pot is doing the same thing as the mother plant.

I'm seeing white spots in the stem of Musa Basjoo mother plant and I hope some one here will chime in on how to tackle the fungus issue.

Increase the air circulation around your plant(s)...the use of a ceiling fan or a box fan aides in the circulation of the air....which creates and has a drying effect, and gets rid of moist/damp areas for fungus to grow....it does not have to run 24-7!

peel off the part that has fungus. Wipe it down with mouthwash, and add a circulation fan.

I'm by no means an expert here, in fact I'm probably more of a newbie.
Anyway..my 2 cents with experimenting as a casual novice...
A couple years ago I brought three big pots of Basjoos I had growing over the summer out on the patio in for the winter and had the same problem. I ended up purchasing a couple bottle of spray funguscide from Lowes and it seemed to do the trick very well. Just kept on top of them every couple of days until I could get them back outdoors in the spring.
My mistake was I placed the basjoos in the same room with my parrots and they like a little more humidity in the winter, probably didn't help the fungus situation that's for sure :)

Mouthwash is interesting....one thing I love about this site, you learn something new every time :)

thanks guys for all your replies, i will def. try the things you guys have advised. btw, we had a fabulous winter in Toronto. Total snow accumulation over the entire winter may be just around 50 cm in total. And its already +5 here..
