Default Musa Basjoo

Hello,
I would love to get my dad a Musa Basjoo for his birthday present in May. He lives in Keswick, ON. I would like to know how big they get, should they start in a pot for x amount of months or should be planted right away? How to prepare it for a winter, and where should it be kept? I know you strip the leaves, cover it in mulch, chicken wire and a trap, but can you keep it in the basement? How many months/years does it take to grow bananas? And is there anything else I should know? Would be GREATLY appreciated.

This is what I know so far, can someone please tell me if this is correct or incorrect. Thank you.

They do grow pretty quickly. The best place to plant this guy is at a south facing wall. Now the Musa Basjoo is a cold hardy plant, it will grow well, and on one site they said they grow like gangbusters, whatever that means. To take care of it for winter is a lil tricky, you want to unroot it and place it in a pot, cut off all the leaves, wrap it in mulch, chicken wire and a trap. Don't over water. On a side note, if the trunk becomes mushy and brown it will bite the dust.

For practical knowledges, my basjoo is too young, i have not enough experience.
I am sure experienced members will help on that!
