Paul, What is your zone? When I think "cold hardy" I think Basjoo, Sikkimensis, and Lasiocarpa. It's not #1 or #3, and can't say about 2. First year with Sikk. but it does seem to have burgundy under the leaves. Can we see some more pics?

Looks like its likely M. sikkimensis to me.
