Default Re: Got my basjoo today!

Those are some skinny basjoo plants. I'd put a little bamboo stake next to them and tie them loosely, until they thicken up a little bit. I don't have any here that are that skinny.
It doesn't matter where you buy your basjoo from geographically speaking. All the tc's usually come out of Florida (or China via Florida in my case) and they are pretty much identical.
Most likely the tc'd plants you purchase in Minnesota will be the same genetic plants that you pick up on vacation in Florida.
In the picture, my basjoo was about 3 years old in that picture. It's about 5 years or maybe 6 now. It's already up over three feet tall this year, even though it was being over run by bamboo. BTW it seems just hacking some of the stems of the bamboo off even with the ground from around the banana worked, it's growing faster now and has 3 more pups coming up.

You can look forward to this! These plants started as 3 small tissue cultured plants in 3 inch pots three years ago. Look at 'em now!

I don't know if my basjoo is going to live. It does really look bad now. I water it every day but not drowning it. Even the new leaf that is just about to come out is also bent now. Looks like the wind in that corner is nasty.

Here is an update folks about my musa basjoo after 10 days it was planted. I've read a lot about bananas that it grows like 16" to 24" in 1 week. Just wondering why my banana is now shorter. When I planted it, it was 17", now it's like 10".

Anyways, I'm glad that my basjoo is still green but with no leaf anymore. Not sure if it will live. I could hardly even see it from my pics. LOL.

Yehey, I saw new leaf coming out! WOOHOO!!! Now, I'm worried that it will get ripped apart again due to strong wind in that corner. So did I choose a wrong location? Location is northwest of my house gets enough sun.
