Question Good Growth for a Season?

Tarheeldiver and some other's postings of their nana patches made me wonder about my lasiocarpus and sikkim. Following are 2 pix taken the other day. Do they look like they had a good amount of growth for one season? I understand the Chinese Yellow stays small, but I only have 1 pup on her. I really expected my sikkim to shoot up, but it has stayed short and stocky, although glossy and beautiful. They received Miracle Gro Liquid and epsom salts, the same as my basjoo, which is a towering clump.. Thanks.

They look really nice. How much epsom salt did you give them? I need to do that with mine next year.

I only use 1 teaspoonful per plant every month in spring and summer as a magnesium supplement. It tends to wash out pretty quickly but I think it helps keep the plants green and the leaves healthy.

I keep forgetting the value of epsoms salts, I used it last year on my potted citrus and it worked great, I need to apply that to my potted nanners. Thanks Howard for bringing that back to my attention ( my span is vewy vewy nawwow) as Elmer would say, Thanks again.

Is it to late to apply it now or just when you fertilize them?

Howard,

Your plants look great! Don't worry, you'll likely have more pups on that lasiocarpa than you know what to do with by next year!

Thanks Howard, I'll add that to my routine next year. I've heard a lot of folks use it for all types of tropicals - so I'll join the club and start myself. I'm sure my sagos would love it too.

I actually started out using it for my palms, where it's use has been documented for some time.

As I'm getting ready to do the annual cutting of the nanas ritual, I don't use it past the summer. That said, if you were keeping the banana as a houseplant for the winter, with appropriate light and watering, I see no reason not to incorporate it's use throughout the year.

I epsom salt everything! 1 Tbls per gal water when I fert & in between. Some ppl use it on their lawns too. It greens things up & helps plants take up nutrients.

Thanks everyone, I'll definitely make sure we start doing that. I've been hearing it for a while (especially about Palms), but sounds like it might be good for all-things-green.
