has more to do with heat than anything. The hotter it gets, the faster mine have grown.
That is exactly what I have observed too. Every time it cools down to 60s and below there seems to be no growth at all, but when it gets above 80F, they grow noticeably.

Here's the difference in about 2 months of growth after going through multiple late frost which killed 1 out of 4 of my musa basjoos, but it looks like they're recovered ready to really take off so I planted 2 of them in the ground after taking this picture. I assume they should grow much faster in the ground.

Thanks. It actually looks about the same...lol I tried to do the leaf cage method thought I was gonna save 6 foot of pstem and ended up with about a foot and it seemed like it took forever to come out of dormancy. Then it rained for almost 3 monthes straight this spring and had a rot problem about 6 inches up on the p stem and a bug ate a huge hole there...im still hoping ill get it to flower this year!

Thanks for the update! Im now inspired to leave my Basjoo in the ground. My basjoo is growing so slow its ridiculous so its time I just put them in the ground, they might be better off. They got 7 leaves this year, but the leaves are not big or nice looking and they have not grown very tall at all. Mine were really disappointing! If I had the growth rate of your basjoos (or most others), mine would be 9 feet tall by now!

I'm inspired! I'm in Denver, zone 6. This is my first winter with my musa. All tucked in now, but I was wondering when exactly to uncover it (and the pups). Our spring weather is very erratic. We've had highs in the 50s/60s/70s the past couple weeks, most nights above freezing. But April/early May is a real crap shoot! Last April, we thought the last freeze/frost was around April 10, then it snowed on Mother's day when the trees were completely green. So it sounds like I should uncover in early April and just cover with a trash can if it's going to snow/get below 30 degrees. Is that what you did?
