Smile Dwarf Red in the north.

I have the opportunity to grow this awesome plant both in ground and a 24 gal container.
The plant has a thick pstem and thick leathery leaves that are a deep green .
While the plant might never produce fruit, the size, presence and color make this a great landscape plant adding a great tropical feel.

Reds love the heat....
But they will pull back fast...once it comes cool.

Reds will grow well under lights ......when small.

But when they go to a footprint of 8x8 they become hard to handle and grow efficiently.
But there are hacks to grow your plant......or any larger plant.

I have one which refuses to grow for a few months.
This plant will reward you with awesome bulk and growth if you amend the soil you plant it in.
Amend the soil with any organics you can...you almost cannot over do it.

Currently growing in a nice wardian habitat.

The plant grows well in a soilless mix and will pup freely.
It is also a great filler plant to tuck into a corner for a tropical feel.
Grown in the much warmer south this plant produces some fine tasting fruit.

Grow the plant as you would cannibis......yep keeping up the good work..
Tropical plants need heat, light and a great growing area.
If you supply the basic needs a grow will surpass (and does quite often)plants grown in southern zones....

Prep your plant for the outdoors
This plant is beast when small (4x4) and under lights..

Your light if you choose can be a 100 watt equivalent output or less.
Indoor grows vary so much from person to person......

This vigorous grower is one of my favorites because it adapts well to different growing conditions.

The container was 1/3 submerged in a lotus pond to add tropical flair.
Healthy white roots protrude from the bottom of the container.
The pseudo stem is bent because the plant tipped over for a few days.
The plant will be straightened when it is repotted.

Healthy roots
