Dig Up and Bring Inside, or Overwinter? -pic-
 

Would you dig up and pot this musa basjoo and bring inside for the winter, or should I overwinter in the yard? It's a first year TC plant along with the others still outside. There's a couple of similar size mekong giants back there and two smaller basjoos too. I'm not sure the smaller guys will pull through if we have a nasty winter this year.

I'd probably dig those up as small as they are. When did you plant them?

The larger ones back in June and the smaller ones in early August.

When you talk of leaving them out there, would you cover with a rose cone or just leave bare?

I would definitely either use the white styrofoam rose cones and/or heavily mulch them all in and cover for the winter if left outside.

I only consider digging that one larger basjoo up because it just seems to have recently gone into that fast growth phase and it seems a shame that winter is right around the corner and the daytime highs are already only in the 50's. I'm just not sure if digging it out, potting it, and bringing it inside will cause more stress than just leaving it in the ground for the winter?

dig it up and bring it in...if you have room. I have not had luck with wintering babysin the elements
Give it a nice window for the winter and maybe a grow light when it starts looking like a bag of ass.
It gets pretty cold up there I Know, if you want to keep it bring it in

Yeah those I wouldn't leave in the ground either. Cannasrus makes a good point with this. Even the big one in your pic seems to only be around 12 to 24 inch of pstem which I think wouldn't be strong enough to stay intact without complete die back, knowing how bad winter gets up here including how wet in tends to stay till spring too.
