browning basjoo

My 3 y.o. musa basjoo is browning very bad. It would appear to be sunburn, But I would assume It should be more tolerant. It died back to the ground unprotected this winter. My past experience is that it becomes use to the sun, and begins to put out more hardy leaves, but this looks like it may also have some mineral deficiency adding to the problem. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Cody, Mine did the same but are outgrowing it. Probably stress. Was your spring as odd as our? Cool and rain. Bad mix for nana's. What your soil like down there anyway? -Nate PS. The dog's not pissin on the nana is he? LOL!

Thats why Iam keeping my dogs in their kennel for the summer!
Only to be let out for a walk!
Before I let them out the kennel, I put a leash on them so they can't get near my nannas!!

Many years ago, I had some potted nanners growing indoors, and I took them to a flea market, which was held on a parking lot with no protection from the sun. That's when I learned that you have to move them into the sun gradually. However, if I remember correctly, the leaves on those sunburned plants turned white. I think the little brown flecks on these are from something else.

I agree, sunburn effects larger areas and isn't spotty like yours. Have you applied any fertilizer lately?

it alsmost looks like rust that attacks iris and glads. thats why all my nanas are planted outside the back yard....they cant potty that far. lol!

Barrie, I just put fertilizer on today.

I had one other thought, they have grown at an incredibly fast pace to a height of 3 feet in only 3-4 weeks. I wondered if they tend to put out a different quality leaf in order to grow a tall stalk? They completely died back over the winter and I actually lost a couple of the largest stems. Anyway, as long as it is growing well, I won’t worry.
