Depending on your zone now is the time to apply fertilizer to your plant while they grow.

Hint: the plant grows as your SOIL temp rises.........not the air temp.

Sweet spot for me zone 5-6 .. 45-50 degrees + for 25 days or so....March-April

However follow your great gardening practices because your outcome will vary.
Gardens vary from zone to zone

Plants are growing just under the soil line.....
But they will not break surface for a month or so.

46-0-0 with a follow up of triple 19 once they break surface.

The plant is moving /growing runners underground.

Are you checking under the soil line or do you just know this from experience? Gives me a bit of hope for the possibility of my HH plants coming back......fingers crossed.

Sorry this is so spread out....OOOPS.

Like most plants it depends how you site them in the landscape.
Water, soil, fertilizer, mulch all play a roll on the plants health and success.

Springtime growing conditions are dramatically different in both of the photos.
The plants shown in both photos are taken a few days apart and are within a mile of one another.
The difference in total height will 6ft vs 20ft+ at end of season

Parking lot basjoos.

Backyard basjoos.

I just measured my p- stems. A few are 9 feet. I honestly thought I'd never thought I'd see that, I figured 8 was it for up here.

That is amazing for the short grow window you have.
Add the leaves and those plants are pretty imposing
Maybe a flower next year.
Is the plant a few years old?
