Default Basjoo's fruiting before frost in 20-30 days

Hi, I had a question about my banana pseudos. I really like the height.. 3 are flowering in Virginia at about 11ft pseudostem. I saw somewhere online before (some other forum) that cutting flowers off before the bloom can save a pseudo. I don't believe this (but I'm hoping it true.. can't seem to find any positive info on it) so I'm asking your expert opinions. Thank you! Flowers not visible yet but the 3 new leaves are about 2 feet long and opened versus about 6-6.5 feet.. plus the base of the leaf is fat and has ripples on it. So I know they are flowers. First time this has happened to me after only 2 summers of bananas so far.. not bad! So should I cut the stems now or will it not matter? I'd like to save the pseudo for next year if possible

Negative! ... Once the banana produces a flower that stem is done for after the fruit ripens or freezes back, even if the bud is within the stem and hasn't pushed out. ... The pups are your replacements.

Go with the flow..
Watch how long it takes for your plant to topple from the winter....you will be surprised.
Educational to watch too.

Cincinnana that looks so sad haha guess it doesn't matter though since the flowering ones will die anyways. Looks like a wrecking ball lol

I definitely will; thank you! I know they will regrow next year depending on how many I save but this is truly a sad moment for me haha they literally created shade for the bar this summer.. it'll take all summer for it to happen again next year

This was my last night pic with the pool taken of them (pool is now closed as of yesterday). You can see the largest in the middle bunch (of 5 bunches) with no new leaves; this made me suspect it was flowering at first. I have only had them 2 years though so I assume every year will be better than the last if you take the time to over-winter them. I will do so.

I will also post updates of the flowers and cut leaves if necessary. I will leave leaves as long as possible though to give the corm the max energy possible.

Unfortunately I decided to chop them and cover them up since it was easier to cover the entire bunches. I used the leaves and pseudos inside the mulching to provide heat via decomposition (exothermal reaction), straw, then I covered them with black plastic wrap with large staples and bricks to keep the plastic from coming off. So far, I tested the regular mulching methods with this and the ones in the plastic wrap have hardly lost any pseudo while the conventional mulching bananas have lost almost the entire pseudo. It was an experiment on my behalf, but it seems the more work involved means the better-preservation of pseudos. Also, the plastic wrap keeps the roots very dry during the winter months thus far. Here are the pics of what I did

Update: I only lost a few small pseudos and absolutely not a single large one. Definitely going to be my winterization method from now on.

Comparison with May 9, 2018 to now (April 13th).. Same size noticeable.. but 1 month sooner than last year. I may try to preserve more pseudo next year.. about 2 feet.
