Basjoo With Rotted Leaves

After transplanting my basjoo at the beginning of the month I've seen my basjoo decline. It is sprouting new leaves that are disfigured and rotted. I haven't watered it since transplanting but there was one serious rainstorm that dropped at least an inch of rain. I used regular old potting soil for the transplant and am regretting it. could it be that it holds too much water and the rotted leaves are a result?

One rain in 2 weeks? Are you sure the leaves aren't dying from lack of water?

Re: Basjoo With Rotted Leave

I'm almost positive that this is moisture related. The soil once watered for some reason really held onto moisture and was wet an inch under surface for at least a week. Right now I'm letting it dry out for a bit only giving it little amounts of water once a week. The new leaf sprouting is still not looking good however it is looking much better than the last one. So I hope that it has made a turn for the better. I will also be planting the tree in the ground hopefully in the next two weeks.

Re: Basjoo With Rotted Leave

A Little update. If anyone wants to chime in on my move please let me know ( I am very new to this). I have now re transplanted my basjoo, changing the soil type to a more cow manure oriented soil. Another leaf sprouted that was completely rotted. just the center was there everything leafy about the leaf was missing. While digging the plant out I noticed that the root system was in very good shape and it had actually spread to almost every part of a half whiskey barrel. My hope is that the new soil make up will correct any mishaps. I do plan on putting the plant in the ground in the next two to three weeks or so. Any thoughts or suggestions would be very helpful.
Thanks
