I didn't do anything special with my Basjoos in South Jersey. I cut the pstems down to about 6" and piled leaves on top. Then I took the leftover hay from the fall decorations and spread it over the Basjoos. All the stems were mush but new growth is showing already.

I tried overwintering 2 Ensettes under the house crawl space and they didn't make it. Rest of the bananas I brought indoors and used T5 lights. They took over my office and I can't wait to get them outside!

Found this thread surfing the Net looking for an answer, hence the resurrection.

What temperatures become dangerous for a newly planted basjoo? Are they okay as long as they don't freeze, or is there a magic number to stay above?

just stay away from frost they will be fine. In the spring when I uncover mine, I put clear plastic over them as to make a greenhouse, just open it up if it gets too hot inside, shut it at night...

Okies, thanks.

I doubt it will frost again, but I was concerned about them getting below 40, if that would hurt them or at least slow them down a bit.
