Bananas that are root hardy?
What are some Banana varieties, fruiting and not, that are root hardy to zone 7, possibly stem hardy with good protection? The main thing is for the corm to not die, fruiting optional.

Re: Bananas that are root hardy?
That is an Ornata species, so not hardy.
You need any of the sikkimensis sub species like: Sikkimensis Sikkimensis 'red tiger'; 'Darjeeling giant'; 'gigantea'; 'manipur' Musa Basjoo seeds, apart from Basjoo, are readily available. |

Re: Bananas that are root hardy?
Ornata is root hardy for zone 8a at least.

Re: Bananas that are root hardy?
If you have to regrow them each spring from the corm (roots) and/or a short piece of PS in HZ7,
I doubt, that your season will be long enough to even get a flower, let alone fruit. Up here in the Great White North we have to unfortunately content ourselves with enjoying the foliage or built greenhouses.
