Advice on over-wintering pups
 
Hello all, I have an Orinoco plant that is about 5ft or 6ft tall. It has 3 pups fro from it that are from 8" to 10" tall and 1 that is just poking out the ground. My question is should I separate them when I dig them up for the winter or would that be a no-go? I have a feeling they would die if separated from the mother. Also should I replant them into a pot or what? The first frost is apparently going to be here in about a week or so. I need some direction here...I'm torn

If the pup's have root's they may make it if potted, don't over water as they are in the dormant season. This is not the best time to transplant though, if you leave them on the mother they will come back after you plant them next year.

Folks seem to think if a plant pups they must repot, replant or cut off because they are mis led to believe the new pup WILL STEAL energy from the mother plant and the plants have a tough time growing.

To the backyard container grower...this does not matter.
Your plant will hold with those pups till spring

Do all your dividing when your plants are ACTIVELY growing such as spring or summer

Not to hijack the post but I was going to question the samething with these pups. Thing is I thought if I divided these now it would make storing them easier. This corm is pretty heavy and am I'm not really sure how I'm going to store it. Any suggestions?

Those look healthy and ready to plant.

They are all doing well. I was just amazed that the few I actually planted are growing like weeds inside. I expected a new leaf or so on each one but I'm up to 4 new on each. I'm hoping to get them moved outside in the next 3 or 4 weeks.
