Default 1st banana

I've been reading this forum for a bit and have not seen a banana like the one i have. I got this banana in the spring from my mom through a lady at her work who works at Rutgers botanical gardens. The plant seems to love our yard and our naturally sandy soil. The plant has been putting out leaves but has not really grown in height. I was expecting something taller since my parents have one and the stem is over 5ft tall. I wanted to see if anyone new if this was a different type or can i expect it to be taller next year?
