What's the name of this fruit?

They are rose apple, in Thai=shompoo. There are varieties of rose apple in Thailand . I have three kinds of them in my front yard. They are esy to plant and they yield lots of fruit aat a time. The only problem is that they usually have insect enemy. tasanas

That is called Water Apple (Syzygium aqueum). Very much related to the Rose Apple(Syzygium Jambos), Malay Apple (Syzygium Malaccense), and Wax Apple(Syzygium samarangense). Water Apple is called Tambis in the Philippines, while Malay and Wax Apple are called Makopa, and Rose Apple is called Yambo.

Ahhh! I thought they were Philippine "Makopas". I remember these growing up as a rambunctious little girl who spent hot summer afternoons climbing fruit and flowering trees. The challenge was scaling cement wall fences topped with broken glass or barbed wire, and sneaking up trees (makopas, ylang-ylang, campacas). Of course, one always made sure the household guard dog was napping. The fruit is a pretty pink hue, very watery, and not too sweet.

These will get very red, and very sweet. I've had other varieties where they were ripe but still white color.

I am beginning to wonder why do you have many tropical plants that thrive in the tropics specially in the Philippines.
Your aunt grows all of them in Central California?
I thought you can only grow them in San Diego Area and perhaps some in Los Angeles.

My aunt lives in Westminster, CA. There are many different tropical fruits being grown here by local residents. I've seen papayas, bananas, these rose apples, jujube, pitayas, mangos, longans, starfruits, guavas. This is just from driving by different neighborhoods and looking at their yards. I'm in central CA, where the weather is worse than Westminster, and I have the following growing: pitaya, longans, guava, mango, starfruit, jujube, bananas, Australian cherimoya. These are all young plants, I've only had fruits from the bananas and longans.

You're very welcome, Richard. The name is "Duhat"(Syzygium cumini). It has very strong anti-diabetes properties - bark, leaf, and fruit. Great tasting, too!
