![]() Ok, so we talk a lot on this site about growing the bananas, how about eating them? Has anyone thought about trading fruit? Would be neat to taste the "fruits" of our labor and get a sense of what else you may be interested in planting.
Not sure about the logistics and hazards of sending bananas through the mail, but I thought it was an interesting concept...kind of a virtual fruit stand thoughts? |

![]() That's a good idea. I have done it before. Maybe not only trade but sell also. The major drawback is the shipping cost, it is going to be $3.85 for 2 fingers of banana. But still cheaper than buying the plant and waiting 3 years to fruit and then be disappointed.
However, the taste of the fruit is first and foremost affected by climate, just like the citruses. This is especially true for California. It may be good tasting in Florida but it will never taste that good in California for the same variety. Likewise, there are cultivrs that tasted only so so in the Tropics, but when planted in California, the acidity of the fruit was increased due to low temperature at night and high temperature during day, making the so-so fruit fantastic tasting in some California areas. |

![]() I was lucky enough to get some of those Pitangadiego sent across country (literally) and they were excellent. The trip was not a problem for them and they arrived in great shape.
Thanks again Pitangadiego! |

![]() This is a great idea. It's also great to see that there's a lot of interest from everyone and that it's been done before.
This could get interesting and be a lot of fun!

![]() I went to a plant sale at Flamingo Gardens in Davie FL, 2 years ago and Going Bananas had a tent set up with lots of plants to sell, AND lots of bananas hanging from the frame over the pups. It was great to taste the fruit then buy the plant. I got Misi Luki, Hua Moa and FHIA 13 (I think) that way. When you taste several together, you can really appreciate the subtle differences.

![]() I saw the pics of your mangos you added to your gallery.
Pretty cool. I should shoot mine. I have two mangos growing from seed, and one still germinating.

![]() Ca Gold appears occasionally on Ebay, and is grown by some people in northern Ca. You might try posting at http://www.cloudforest.com/cafe/index.html as they read that forum.
