Wrong bananas shipped again?

Ok, last year I had a well known banana supplier ship me the wrong bananas, however when I told them about this they sent me new replacements. This year I ordered from them again. Did think much about it until I moved some pots around and noticed how my M.ice cream looked just like the M itinerans I just bought. Do these M.itinerans look like they could be itinerans to you guys?

To me they look a lot like this guy:

What do you guys think?

Ok, after looking at BigDog's M.itinerans I know I was shipped the wrong thing errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... Mine have way to much wax on the stem. I am really starting to dislike BananaTree.com

So do these at least look like M.sikkimensis to someone that knows what they are looking at?

Re: Wrong bananas shipped again?

I have gotten wrong things from them as well. I had ordered RajaPuri from them a few years ago and what I got was certainly not that.
Aside from that, they are a good company to buy from if they would only ship the right thing 100% of the time. Ted has actually mentioned many months ago that he would join Bananas.org as a member. I just sent Ted an email to see the status of that.
Hopefully with everyone in the banana industry linked up properly here we can sort out mistakes and promote the bananas properly.

Scratch that - I confused banana-plants.com with banana-tree.com

Yea, I know mistakes happen, but I guess it just gets me that I have been shipped the wrong things on both orders. Oh well, I guess some of the members on this board will be getting some of my money or plants, lol.

So anyone have an opinion on the sikkimensis?

Re: Wrong bananas shipped again?

I have a plant that I think is Sikkimensis that looks like your Sikkimensis.
Mine is not a positive ID because it was sent to me as RajaPuri, but it clearly is not.

It's much taller now, those pics are very old. But the plant still gets the splotches and still has a very red pseudostem, maybe even more red now than before.

Jarred,
You dont have a sikkimensis, you have some edible variety, but as always its very hard to say what exactly until it flowers.

BGreen,
yours does not look much like sikkimensis either, the leaf color and patterns are similar but I have never seen that much wax or red coloring on the pseudostem.

Thanks Gabe.
That is what I was afraid of.
Anyone here has a sikkimensis pup the would like to get rid of, or know a source that has them?
Hopefully I can get some of my seeds to sprout.

I'm going to order some sikkimensis from Agristarts in the spring and will have tc's if you can't find one sooner.
Your first banana is definitely ice cream. I've been looking at those little red leaf edges all summer since my "break room" banana tree is ice cream. I just love looking at those new pinstriped leaf edges!

Re: Wrong bananas shipped again?

Ben,

Your unidentified 'Sikkimensis' looks very similar to my 'Bordelon'. It has the right shading of red under the leaves, and the right amount of red splotching on top. Your pstem may be slightly pinker, than mine - mine is a touch more red, and also, yours looks a tiny bit less slender. But plants are individuals too! My 'Bordelon' has suffered terribly from being transplanted indoors in fall in NJ, so may be different from the norm.

I'll post a picture soon.

Re: Wrong bananas shipped again?

the unidentified "sikkimensis" isn't a bordelon. The bordelons have red backsides to the leaves, more like burgundy colored, like a zebrina.

Re: Wrong bananas shipped again?

Ben , My Bordelon looked exactly like your plant a month ago .
I took this pic just now :

If you zoom in you can see the pups which are green then pink and then red and later pinkish again .
They have very little red under the leaf early on but become very red / purple as the plant grows beyond 2' or so .
Like Joe said , plants are individuals , and I see a lot of variation between my plants and thier original mats .
