What type are these?

I bought these from an Asian market. I was so excited to see something other than cavendish, sucrier, and plantains. Problem is that I really don't know what kind they are. Am I supposed to cook them or eat them raw?

With the heavy wax "bloom" and in an Asian market, I'd guess Namwah. They certainly can be cooked, but I prefer them very ripe and raw. Let them get much riper than your normal Cavendish -- no green at all on the peel or pedicel and some black is fine. They won't get the brown spots that Cavendish peels get.

They might be saba bananas. If they are triangular shaped then they could possibly be saba. :D

I buy the same type bananas here in Southern California at an Asian market the proprietor calls them Choui Xiem ( Vietnamese).

They are Namwah as Mark suggested. They are a popular cooking banana, but also make a nice dessert banana.

Namwah are delicious. Let them get nice and ripe.
