What a find iny travels today!

Wonderful find today in my travels I came across a vacant restaurant with 100+ banana trees, there were flowers, pups and bananas every where. Please help me identify, I know nothing. The plants seem to be. No more that 7 ft tall, leave are more slender and there is no red. It doesn't look like my grand nain. Please any advice, thoughts. I removed a few pups how would you suggest I treat them, pots?

I'm about 2 hours from the house, hurrying as quick as I can got about ten of these babies I've got to get into pots when I get home ranging from 1 to 5 foot. There was literally a couple hundred and there were flowers everywhere it was so cool to see I wish I could have taken all of them can't wait to find out what this baby is and I'll get pictures posted as soon as I can.

Congratulations! Thus far my only finds have come from 2 invited digs and 2 roadkills. If you edited your profile to show where you live it could help with ID. (See Bryce's or mine.) If you're in FL, I'm willing to bet they're Orinocos; if they're dwarfs, there are members who love to have a pup or 2. (In other words, you'll need to go gather more.

thanks so much for posting the pics, i added a few more of close ups of the leaves of the pups i took home.
again, what i know.

location……. east of Houston Texas
height 6 to 7 ft tops
color, green, no red on leaves or stalks
leaves, slender compared to my grand nain
growing in sandy loam, has had no human care in a long time.

Look orinoco to me. I have started an orinoco collection and found variables across ranges. I have the Texas star orinoco from Texas.

They are good if really ripe. The skins will be black but still not rotten inside. I like them. But only extra ripe.

They look more like a not cared for tall Orinoco. The real dwarfs are very short and stocky.

Reading a few articles dwarf is under 12 feet. I don't myself but that's what I read

I have some that are simi dwarf also. My TC dwarf Orinoco are 5-6'. USDA Tars says they are 6.4' feet. Seems like mine always average a little shorter than USDA Tars in PR.

Orinoco is common in the Houston/Gulf Coast Area. My dwarf Orinoco is a long way from fruiting yet, but I'm familiar with the regular Orinoco. My guess is regular Orinoco. E of Houston, you say? Was it on I-10? I'm curious.

Mudturkle location was huffman crosby area. at a closed down Mexican restaurant.

Well i got 10 to raise now, put them in miracle grow last night and watered them well, time will tell. really hoping they are dwarf,i have limited space for the big ones. Our wind is pretty rough here also in Montgomery, Texas.

Every one collected big and small from the 2 days of finds are holding there own. Had to remove some of the leaves. I potted all 10 of them in a good miracle grow and sand mixture with a little 8/8/8 and have been watering every other day, they are responding well. Texas sun is hot very high 90's. 2 of them have new leaves opening. I have places for them to go in the ground, will probably give them at least 1 more month.

my two cents...
Why put them in a planter and replant them in the ground later and give them transplant shock twice? I would put them right in the ground, and place something in front of them for shade if necessary. Or you could cut them to tall stumps when you transplant, no sun worries then.
I have found that plants like being in the ground more than pots, all plants I have grown, anyway.

Like I said, just my two cents...

I always pot new to me plants. This gives them the chance to get accustomed to my dirt (I use my compost) and me the opportunity to keep them in filtered light while they recover and develop additional roots. If you use a big enough pot and dig a good sized hole then water in very well, IME there is no shock when they go in the ground.
