![]() In Viet Nam is was very popular dessert banana back in 90.Back then ,everywhere you go at restaurants or people homes ,they would served this type of banana as dessert. In Viet Nam ,we call it chuối gią hương and Place in Da Lat ,they named it Laba. I am not sure it is the same variety, because I have not taste Laba Banana yet. chuối gią hương is a banana that has thin long cure up with square edges. It stay green even when fully ripe, very sweet and super fragrant. It was listed on group #1 of Laba variety in Viet Nam. I visited Viet Nam many times ,but can not find this variety any more. I do some web search and here is the link that have some picture of it. ÄĆ€ Lįŗ*T RAU & HOA the yellow banana is somewhat in group #2 ot#3 of Laba Banana.
The Philippines somewhat they have similar variety . They called it Bungulan here is the the link Banana In The Philippines: Anything You Need To Know About Banana In The Philippines All I know at this time is that chuối gią hương is in a group of AAA+ banana, but not sure exactly its true name. Dose anyone know the name of this type of banana ? Is anyone in U.S.A have this variety in your banana collection? Please share picture of your banana tree and fruits . Thanks

![]() I have Nam Doc Mai, Cat Hoa Loc and Po Pu Kalay. They come from that part of the world. I used to patrol along the Cambodian border and would run into bananas all over the place. Never found one in fruit as the season was wrong. Dan

![]() If this is correct which I don't think it is but this suggest that Lakatan is Bungulan. Supper common but I don't think Lakatan is ripe and green.

![]() bananimal,
Nam Doc Mai is Thai Mango . Cat Hoa Loc is Vietnamese Mango and Po Pu Kalay is Myanmar ( Burma) Mango this variety of mango also has other name Lemon Meringue In U.S.A imclumbi, Yes you are right about mango names, but none of these name have nothing to do with Banana names. Botanical_Bryce, Lakatan is haft of the size of chuối gią hương . Lakatan fruit is round, short and turn yellow when ripe. A Philippines lady said in London, they called "Tumok" for Bungulan Banana Here is the link show the inside out of a Bungulan Banana ŠŠµŠ»ŃŠ½ŃŠµ Š±Š°Š½Š°Š½Ń Bungulan Bungulan is somewhat very close related to chuối gią hương in Viet Nam . The different are Bungulan more short and round fruit than chuối gią hương .However they are have the same look of skin , flesh and both ripe green. I don't know about taste and smell of Bugunlan Banana from Philippines ,so I am not sure that chuối gią hương banana from Viet Nam is the same variety. Thanks all for your replies . Kenneth |

![]() Dalmatiansoap, " regular Cavendish"
Cavendish fruit somewhat ground ,fat and 2 times larger than chuối gią hương. Cavendish fruit does not stay green when fully ripe. As for the taste and smell, I give Cavendish 5 and chuối gią hương 12 . 10 would be the high number for best taste and smell. |

![]() There are 2 types. Lacatan and Lakatan. I misspelled it but Bungulan in America is Lacatan. It is a cavendish. A simple google search comes up with many options and most will tell you Bungulan is Lacatan. Bungulan | News, knowledge and information on bananas

![]() Botanical_Bryce,
IF "Bungulan in America is Lacatan" then this Philippines Banana variety is not the same as chuối gią hương Vietnamese Banana variety. |

![]() That is what the information is telling you and what I am trying to tell you. Lacatan and Lakatan are not the same thing. Bungulan/Lacatan is a AAA type and the Philippine Lakatan is an AA type. Bungulan in America will be Lacatan
