I am guessing I have some Basjoo bananas here based upon other pictures I have seen here at this forum, the fact that its cold hardy and the red strip on the leaf??

Re: What do I have here??
Sure looks like one to me. A closeup of the pseudostem where the petioles meet it would be good, but I'm 99% sure that's Musa basjoo. How long have you had it?

Re: What do I have here??
Hi all,
I think the most distinctive difrerence between Basjoo and other species is that most of other bananas have white waxy powder on the stem and petioles while Basjoo doen't. To my eyes, this banana does not seem to have white power on them and it probablly is Bajoo. But young pups usually do not have the white powder, so it must be carefull to identify youg pups. |
