I took no offense at all. It didn't even enter my mind. I had the impression that you wanted to know about the Owner of the nursery. That was all. It had nothing to do with the nursery's ads. I'm kinda neutral about their ads. Though maybe, I think they're on the corny side. I don't particularly care to see those guys in there, but I don't mind the women! Chong |

Re: Variegated banana?
lol well being that you have been Married for 44 years i can certainly understand that! sorry for the misunderstanding its so hard to get the exact meanings of what people are saying some times. i have a much bigger vocabulary then i have the ability to convey them in a righting contexts. back on the subject i don't know what the owner of TyTy is like iv never done business with him or her
i can only go buy what iv heard here on the org and over all iv gotten the impression that some people have had good luck with them but that most haven't and this is just observation on my part that looking at his adds hes not trying to appeal to people that are experienced gardeners i think hes going for the novelty of Bananas that in and of it self makes me circumspect and the fact that I'm fairly sure the pic on the front page that hes calling a variegated Banana is a subtle attempt to imply that its an Ae Ae with out coming right out and saying it that seams a bit "scamish" to me but this is all conjecture on my part and if hes on the up and up then i don't think that he has a thing to worry about from my humble if not bumbling opinion

Re: Variegated banana?
Ty Ty had so many bad reviews on the "garden watch dog", and they tried writing some of their own fake ones to improve their rating percentage. What ended up happening is that Ty Ty got a attourney/lawyer and threatened to sue Daves Garden who operates garden watch dog if he didn't take down all the feed back. You should have read the feedback that Ty Ty got before that, man that was the most worst feed back I have ever read, and I basically think they are crooks after reading all that.
Garden wacth dog is a great resource, check it out before you buy. |

While you're there, would you mind if I ask the favor of taking pictures of their 1-year offsets of the 'Texas Star' banana that they have for sale? Preferably, ones that are near a mature plant of the same variety, and even better, next to one that has fruits/blooms. Although, as I stated before, that I've had no problems with them, I have been hesitating ordering from them because of all the bad reviews they've been getting in the last few years. Even more so now, since I read about Joe Real's experience about his Texas Star not being a Texas Star but a Musa Ornata. Now, I don't know if in fact he ordered the plant from Ty Ty Nursery or was given to him by a friend. But still, even if it just came from a friend, that friend would have ordered it from someone claiming it was a Texas Star. So, I would really appreciate your help. Also, please let us know what your general opinion of the plant (TX Star) is, and also, their overall customer service. Thanks, Chong |

Re: Variegated banana?
Well I went and they said " We decided to wait until next spring to sell our variegated bananas". So I ended up not buying anything. Sorry chong, but I didn't get on here until today.
Thanks, Farmboy |

Have no fear, one of the members of this board has decided to finally sell his Ae-Aes on eBay and offer to ship this time. The first time around, he was only selling the plants for pick-up. The shipping cost is pretty steep - $55! Here is the link: VARIEGATED AE AE BANANA! EXTRA LARGE SIZE OVER 5' TALL - eBay (item 250275850318 end time Aug-03-08 16:43:30 PDT) There is already one bidder at $99, though. Now I'll probably never know what a Texas Star banana is really like. thanks again. |

Re: Variegated banana?
well I'm not afraid i think i could prove with out a doubt that they attempted to be deceptive in there adds! on more then one occasion and they have about 500 complaints against them i wander what a judge would say
well as the say in the law "the wheels of Justis grind exceedingly slow but exceedingly fine indeed"

Re: Variegated banana?
Chong, I have a Texas Star coming to me once it cools off a bit here. I will send you some picks once it arrives. It is not from TyTy so I can only hope it is a real cultivar and not a misnamed banana.

I would be curious about it. When you say that they do not come from Ty Ty N, do you mean it comes from another nursery in GA? If they are, the chances are that they are the same ones from Ty Ty because I believe they are all owned by the same people. Though I am surprised that you were able to buy just one. Unless, of course, if you bought other plants with it. Is the source a secret? Anyway, congratulations on your move! Hope you enjoy your new home. What part of town are you in? There's lots of Filipino restaurants there! Some are even very low priced. Thanks again, Chong |
