Unknown Tall Banana Maybe FHIA-1, 2, 3?

Re: Unknown Tall Banana Maybe FHIA-1, 2, 3?
To me it does look very similar to my Goldfinger bunches. On mine it seems like the male flowers fall off easy the first month or little more. Like in your picture. After that they stay on more if you don't touch them. Also mine bloom around 6.5-7.5 feet however I'm colder than you are. Seems like when they bloom shortly afterwards the Pstem weakens. I have all mine propped. They are strong prior to blooming. It's strange. I'm probally overprotective. I've only had fruit from the TC Goldfinger. Never the USDA Goldfinger which some think are different. Hopefully an expert will see this and ID them for you.

I just added another photo. Any ideas? At least my neighbor has left the bud alone. :banana_ba

Any Ideas on an ID yet? If I never get a true ID its okay, the banana plant produces every year and the bananas taste great.

How tall is it? With the clean rachis it isn't Dwarf Brazilian. From the photos it doesn't look tall enough to be regular Brazilian -- but I can't really judge the height well.
I wouldn't describe Dwarf Brazilian as lemony, but I could see how someone might -- definitely a little tart. |

I am thinking tall Brazilian as well... I got that pic of the tall Brazilian from a thread where Gabe posted the pic and said they can be anywhere from 12-20 feet or more depending of how well fed and watered they are.. The pics at the top are obviously from the ground and the bunch is several feet above the photographer, so I guess they are kinda tall...

Still looks like Goldfinger or maybe another FHIA hybrid to me. Just a guess. Also dwarf Brazillian is one of the two direct parents of fhia-1 Goldfinger. SH-3142 is the other parent.

I have three plants blooming right now. The first plant is short at 7'. This is the shortest this plant has ever bloomed. The other two are just over 9'. I think this plant blooms usually around 10'. |

In a year, maybe I can as I have two Goldfingers from different sources. I planted them beside each other to note any differences easily since one is said to be an "American" Goldfinger and the other the FHIA variety. Still waiting on the "American" to start pushing leaves as it was a stump in the mail. It looks like it is trying but they aren't breaking out yet. :lurk: :lurk: :lurk: Waiting impatiently for the end of winter... and some growth. All my plants are growing leaves, albeit slower than summer, but one Namwah. Both Namwahs stopped growing after a cold snap a month or so ago. It was only low 40's, but stopped them dead in their tracks. One finally pushed a leaf the last few days but the other is still just sitting there. Funny, my GM didn't slow at all from the cold. |

The bananas on this plant are good. I usually get two or three bunches each year. I got 77 bananas off of this plant. I'm going to make some beer with the first bunch of bananas I froze. Hopefully it will taste good. If the beer is good I will just call it my banana beer plant. :nanadrink:

I'd still go with "American Goldfinger". |
