Re: Unknown
That's a Sword Sucker - Actually The good kind that will develop into a banana tree. The suckers that look like little banana plants from the beginning are water suckers and are weak and have poor root systems and should be removed and grown for foliage only. I'm not an expert but remember reading about the two sucker types on here somewhere.

Re: Unknown
The only difference between a sword and a water sucker is that the first is getting its nutrition from a mother plants while a water sucker must build its own energy to grow as it has no connection to the mat. If a water sucker and a sword sucker of the same size get removed and planted somewhere,i bet the water sucker will grow better as it has a good root system and functional leafs. They will both become equally big mature plants and bear fruit at about the same time.
A sword sucker is only advantageous when it remains connected to a mother plant as then it will grow much faster ,getting its energy from the mother plant to grow, than a water sucker which produces its own energy.
