Question Tubunatar - The Mystery Banana from the South Pacific?

Hey banana enthusiasts,

I need your help with something intriguing I stumbled upon in the "Illustrated Guide to the Identification of Banana Varieties in the South Pacific" by the Australian Government. There's this banana listed called Tubunatar, and it looks pretty unique.

I can't seem to find any other information about Tubunatar besides these recorded characteristics

AA Genome, Cooking, 3-7lbs Bunch Weight, 2.0m-3.5m Psuedostem Height, Red plant and fruit

I'm adding a picture from the guide here.

Has anyone come across Tubunatar before or have any idea what it be named elsewhere? Any insights or guesses are welcome!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Gabe15 posted a picture of a similar if not identical variety on his Instagram several years back: https://www.instagram.com/p/B3sVGpDD...RlODBiNWFlZA==

He also documented a similar one in 2011:

The problem with trying to find info on bananas from the South Pacific is how much variety is there. That area is one of, if not THE cradle, from which banana diversity sprung forth. There's simply not enough resources available for scientists to document all of them.

If you wanna look at more pretty pics of bananas, I'd recommend going to musalit.org and searching for the keyword "catalog"

This was awesome. Gabe is a true banana hero.

Read through both and I'm just blown away.

Thank you for this resource, it's sparked a new sense of adventure in me!
