These three have always been a bit of a mystery to me. The first I purchased as a Basjoo, and knew full well it wasn't at the time. But I've never been able to ID it. The size implies to me it's either a Super Dwarf Cavendish or a Dwarf Cavendish. This is nearly a 2-year old plant (dug up in winter); it's about 30" tall (p-stem only).

The bottom two images are of plants I bought on eBay labeled 'Truly Tiny' - which at the time I was ignorant and didn't realize was a very small type of banana, not just baby banana's - duh John. But they seem a bit tall for 'Truly Tiny' - so I'm starting to wonder if they might also be something else. They are 30" and 26" tall - so I guess they could be 'Truly Tiny'.

Any thoughts or opinions?

Looking at photos, and comparing them to these plants when they were younger, they look like Super Dwarf Cavendish bananas. Here's one of the eBay 'Truly Tiny' from May 2007.

Hi JC Derrick,
I have no answers for you because I too bought what I thought was a basjoo in June and it turned out to be what I think now is also a cavendish from the pictures I have seen and it looks an awful lot like your pics too. I am interested to see what others identify your plant to be. Your plants look very healthy. I am ready to pluck mine from the ground and store it for the first time. I am in SW Michigan and it is getting colder by the day. It may frost here tonight. I hope it survives because it is a beautiful plant. I bought another one that looks more like a basjoo and will plant that one in the spring. Too young and too late to put it in the ground. I was looking for info on the site to see when to dig. I know it is time to put these nanners to bed for the winter. Diane

Good luck Diane. I'm going to dig mine up when our lows hit the 45F mark on a consistent basis - that should give me another week or so to let them get used to their pots before moving them indoors under the halides for the winter. Granted I don't really have to dig any of them up in my zone - but I like to preserve as much of the p-stem as I can.

If it's calling for Frost, you may want to go dig your little guy up - else you may loose your leaves.
