Are these Sabas?
 

Ingredients: Ripe Bananas, Sugar, Water. From the Philippines.
Here is a side view.


The guys I work with brought these to me. :ha: :ha::ha:

Indeed, it is. Boiled, peeled, and preserved in syrup. The ones we make at home is made with darker syrup - almost as dark as pancake syrup. We slice them diagonally, about a quarter inch thick, put them in shaved ice with some of the syrup, pour evaporated milk over them, top it off with a scoop of ice cream.

Or, they can be one the ingredients in the most popular shaved ice treat called "Halo-Halo".

You don't by any chance have a recipe of how to can them? I've searched the web looking for one since I saw this thread. I would love to try it.

I have not done any canning of this fruit, but here's a recipe for making the dessert. I suppose that you can place the mixture in a canning jar and in a pressure cooker for the final 10 minutes of the process.

BANANA IN SYRUP
Ingredients :

• 6 medium ripe Saba (or plantain bananas)
• 2 cups sugar
• 3 cups water
• 1/2 tsp. salt

Cooking Procedures :

1. Pour water in a saucepan. Stir in sugar and salt to dissolve. Heat over medium heat. Bring syrup to a boil and then lower the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes.

2. Peel bananas and cut into 1/2 inch slices. Add to simmering syrup and continue cooking for another 10 minutes more or until Saba bananas are tender and syrup is slightly thickens and lightly golden brown.

3. Remove from heat. Transfer to a dessert plate and serve.

VARIATIONS:
Sweet Potato (Kamote) in Syrup
Substitute kamote (sweet potato) slices for bananas and cook as above until sweet potatoes are tender.

Thank you! I can't wait to try it, course it'll have to be store bought bananas for now ..... unless someone puts some of their homegrown nanas up for sale!!
