Default Is it a Thai Black?

I bought a banana last July as Musa 'Thai Black'. however, there is no black to be seen. It survived a zone 7 winter last year with only a Styrofoam box to protect it.

Thanks,
Alex

Doesn't look like mine. They get a very dark purple p-stem as they mature. The stems are green when they first come out.

From those petioles it looks like it could be Basjoo. Let it mature a bit more and see if the black coloration comes.

Hi, I have Thai Black and they have a black pseudo stem even at a foot tall. The more sun the darker they get. I am in zone 7 and Thai don't survive our Winter. Maybe you have Basjoo.

Not Thai Black...

My Basjoo has p-stems and lighter colored leaves...

Could it be Mekong giant?

Mine took a while to turn black. I think it stayed green the first year. It seems like pups are extremely dark black immediately and tissue culture stay green for much longer. That observation might not be accurate, but it seems to be a trend I noticed during another discussion on Thai Black.
