Default Scientific Banana Identification of Blue Java

Hey All
Last year, I, Like many others purchased a banana tree that was said to be Blue Java. I was wondering if there is a TC test or other scientific way to verify my purchase besides just looking at the pictures. No fruit yet, but 2 pups so far. I will also post some pictures tomorrow if the weather is good.

If you bought a tissue culture grown Blue Java it will be something else. No need for any kind of test

Is your plant's last name Ferrigno by chance...

Not sure if it was TC grown. I was wondering if we could verify the species by TC.

ha! Well yes you see I too bought what was supposed to be a Blue Java and while it hasn't fruited yet I'm pretty sure it's a Namwah. But this TC has exploded into this massive and imposing specimen (to me) so I named it Lou Ferrigno. You know, as in the Incredible Hulk Lou Ferrigno?

So anyway our plants may be siblings of sorts. If it grows 8' in 4 months and starts throwing out pups like it was it's job then I'd say they are related.....

Welcome to the forum. I'm new too but have already realized that there is a wealth of knowledge here.

The more I read the more I am starting to think mine is a Namwah as well. I think the other "BJ" is a Namwah too.
It probably is related. I brought it home last August and planted it. Grew a few feet and put out two pups before winter. This spring It released a few more pups and the pup is nearly bigger than the original after 2-3 months. They both now sit at about 8ft.

Hey, Blue Java or not you have impressive plants so it's hard to get mad. Now you'll just have to go find a real one and there are some people on this forum that can get you one. Good luck on your quest.

From where did you buy it? This may answer the question if it was a TC or not.

A plant vendor at the st augustine flea market. It was the only one and labeled as blue java. I didn't know what it was as this was my first banana plant which started my love for these trees.
It actually just popped another pup I noticed.
If I could figure out how to post pictures I'd add them.
Thank you for your responses.
