is this saba?

I drove through a subdivision in town,which must have a warmer little microcimate than I have here(10 miles away,in the country),and all the bananas were doing fine while mine have allready turned to mush.
Over one house I could see banana plants that were huge and had to stop and meet thier owners . there were 3 blooms going and one just breaking through. They told me that it was a seedles variety and that they actually got ripe fruits a few times .
could you guys help me identify them ?

I first thought they were orinoco but they're way tall .

How tall? They look like Orinoco to me.

Looks like some freakishly ginormous orinocos... but chicken fried crackers!!! they are HUGE!

I see now. It looks like there are 2 different ones though, either that or where they are specifically growing changed their heights (which is possible, but the colors look a little different too). The really tall ones look like Saba, but I do not see a fruit bunch. The ones with the fruit look smaller and more like Orinoco, but I will agree they do look large for that even. Did the owner imply they were all supposed to be the same variety?

Gabe, I believe you are right... I looked at the pics again and the "supersized" plant is more rounded almost heart shaped where the leaf meets the petiole... and the suspected orinoco does not have that dramatic roundness...

Sound correct to you?

You know what?... you might as well disregard anything I think... because I am looking at another pic that looks like orinoco again but it is huge.... I am so confused

They are all the same . I think he told me that they all came from one plant.
The really massive ones are under a pine canopy.

Well it very well could be a Saba type plants, there are lots of different varieties of Saba and some may have less rounded buds. Its mature fruit is easy to indentify, but I havent seen enough of the young bunches to be able to ID them so easily.

O.K. , I tried to contact my friend,Mr Renfrow to do some more plant trades early last spring only to hear that he had passed away. I only had a very short while to know him but he will be missed.
I spoke with his wife for a while and she let me get 20+ pups . She said that I could get a lot more as long as I left his 'favorite'.
The larger plants there were already twice as big as any of mine.
These look nothing like my Saba but they grew taller faster than my existing Saba,though much more slender.
I deleted all of the pics of the fruit but should be able to post some next year if they perform as well for me as they did for the Renfrows.

BTW.....It's exactly 8' to the tip of that Siam Ruby leaf in the right side of the pic.
