Default Red Leafed Banana looking plant

I just moved into a new house and after a few months debating with the wife if this is banana or canna, I finally need to ask the board.

This plant and little suckers are in my garden next to my house and get shade from a Japanese Maple. I started watering them real good every other day. They get mostly shade yet a few hours of morning/afternoon sun. Had some new growth and big leaves since I started watering good a month ago, but their growth is very weird.

I think they are a type of banana... would love to pinpoint which.

Canna lily, specifically the cultivar "Red Stripe". Yours is identical to the Red Stripe cannas I grow in my front yard.
