Default Red Banana Identification

I just received three 'Red' Banana Pups from a seller in Luquillo, Puerto Rico. He didn't know the "variety" of 'Red' banana, but said they grow 8' - 9' tall.

I'm a bit confused by the nomenclature of the 'red' banana...
Best I can tell is that there is really just one 'Red' Banana and all the various names are all simply synonyms of Musa acuminata (AAA Group) 'Red Dacca'.
But if that's true, why are there also 'Tall' and 'Dwarf' Red Bananas listed in places with very different sizes?

Help! What the heck do I call my new babies!?

Now what are the chances that you just posted this thread! I was just about to post a thread about this very mysterious banana plant myself just today! Not only that but I bought the same plant from the same seller on ebay as you! So I am genuinely curious myself! However, sorry I don’t know any answers myself!

Make sure that you sterilize them in a bleach water solution. You don't want to bring tropical diseases into your area.

Too funny! I actually only ordered one and she shipped me three! One has already sprouted and is doing great, waiting on the other two to show life. Not bad for $22 plus shipping. You happen to figure out the nomenclature? We may have resort to calling them “Dwarf Red Rican”... 🤪🤣

They are almost certainly just the common 'Red', perhaps the dwarf form. Internationally in the scientific community, these are actually just known as 'Red', and in almost every language in regions where they are grown, they are also normally known as some form of the local word for "red". So, 'Red' it is. Some other names for them that aren't exactly "red" are Red Dacca, Cuban Red and Jamaican Red.

Thanks for laughing! You’re lucky then! I ordered one and just got 1 extra! Not that I was expecting to receive a free one with it though! The seller is very kind and generous! Don’t you think!? I would definitely buy from them again in the future! Mine are doing great too! Thanks so much for the reply!
