received unlabled bananas
Hi all,
so last year I ordered several bananas to add to the garden. I ordered from 2 vendors and both arrived at the same time, both sent them without labels even though both had 2 in each order. I did not realize it until I had taken everything out, making a bigger mess. So I know what I ordered. I know what one is. One went missing, never made to a pot I think. Which is Which? The vendors were of no help. I figured I would wait till they were bigger to figure out what they were. What I ordered were: Musa FHIA-3 Sweetheart Musa FHIA-3 Sweetheart - Bananas Wiki Musa Double Mahoi (obviously I know which one this is) Musa Double (Mahoi) - Bananas Wiki Musa Grand Nain Musa Grand Nain - Bananas Wiki Musa Blue Java Ice Cream Musa Blue Java (Ice Cream) - Bananas Wiki Here are the pictures of how they look now: #1 This is the Mahoi, #2 Is this the grand nain? #3 I think this is the Sweetheart or the Blue Java? They are going into the ground in the next week or so, and would like to know what they are before I put them in. Thanks! -bb |

Re: received unlabled bananas
It's really too hard to tell at this point. And the one in the middle looks a bit sick. Last one looks like Orinoco or Namwah.

Re: received unlabled bananas
This my Sweetheart fresh out of the pot last year.. Right by the gate..
This is my Gran Nain from 2010.. The Last pic does look like a Namwah / Orinoco.. Maybe you got the fake Ice Cream like so many others and it a Namwah.. :^) Last edited by Abnshrek : 04-01-2014 at 11:01 PM. |

Re: received unlabled bananas
Thanks , theone I taught was grand nain does look like the grand main.
The other one not sure still. Per my other thread, I bighky doubt it's Orinoco since apperently I have a lot of Orinoco and they are not that similar. I guess I will have to wait on that one until I get some bananas from it. Thanks -bb |

Re: received unlabled bananas
Why do you know the one is Double Mahoi? I couldn't say what it is in #1 based on the pic. But if you know somehow, that's good.
I've never seen a Sweetheart, but #3 does look like a Blue Java, but it could be something else you didn't order. Has the light green color and closed petioles of it. I generally find more pink on the Namwah p-stems even at that stage. #2 certainly looks like a wide open short petiole cavendish type such as Grand Nain. |
