Really really large seeds
Many years back in Sweden when I lived with my parents I ordered some banana seeds and got some huge ones. Almost square and at least half an inch in diameter. I sanded them down a little, soaked them in water and within two weeks 4 out 5 sprouted and turned into gorgeous plants that grew extremely fast. Put them in a non-heated greenhouse and that summer they grew fantastically. Later they died indoors due to pests/bugs etc.
I have planted several kinds of banana seeds and none has come even close in size and shape to those seeds. Any idea what it could have been? Thanks |

Re: Really really large seeds
Likely Ensete ventricosum, but it could be a few different species, do you have any photos of the plants?

Re: Really really large seeds
No they are long gone. But I remember the seeds very well and compared with other banana seeds I have seen or since planted here in the US nothing has come close in size.

Re: Really really large seeds
Ensete ventricosum. If you click on the photo, and then click again, you will get a slightly larger image which will be easier to see the details on the seeds.
