Sometimes they cling on but not very tight, they tend to fall off more so than cavendish, which you'd have trouble even trying to pull them off.

Yeah I don't know, mine have never been that tight. Usual the bracts fall off leaving the false fingers.

I was under the impression male bract retention/separation is one of the key indicators to determine whether a plant is a dwarf or a tall for the particular variety. I'm sure there are some exceptions but thought this was a general rule.

I think climate has a lot to do with that. Los Angeles California: pretty hot, dryer. South Florida: Still hot, tropical. Humidity, temp definitely determines that. That is my take on it.
