Possible Blue Java
That's what I ordered from that place named after the state south of Georgia and an area of raised earth, not quite a mountain....Yeah I read the thread. That was a doosie. Anyway I had no idea about them when I ordered it but alas I did and it came. The elusive and desirable Blue Java. It came as they all do from them in a triangular shipping box and taped up well. It was a fairly frail looking little thing but I stuck it right in the ground like it was my job. watered it and it really took off. I THINK I managed to post a pic of when it was planted and a pic today, exactly 1 month later. It's really taking off I think.
Now. After reading it appears that place (and others) sell you x and give you z. I know it's a little young but it does appear to be quite a different looking plant. I have some Gran Nains that I got from them last year and they look totally different but maybe they should. Anyway take a look and let me know what you think. By the way I think there is some amazing talent and knowledge on this forum and am looking forward to hanging around. I have a decently established clump of bordelons, several gran nains, this new one whatever it may end up being, a juvenile ensete maurelii (came with ole blue), a struggling Gold Finger and Basjoo, both tissue cultures and a beast of nam wah pup I got last week from a local grower. Cheers |

Re: Possible Blue Java
I don't know if it will help, but my blue java pups have the same waxy look on the petioles, that is also on the fruit - that is what gives it the blue/gray/green appearance.
I'll post a pic tomorrow. Does yours have that? |

Re: Possible Blue Java
It does seem like that to me. It's maturing pretty quickly and every day looks more like what you're describing. My goodness maybe they got it right!!

Re: Possible Blue Java
Nice looking pup. At least you didn't get a TC plantlet. .... You set it deeper than it should be. The top of the corm should be at ground surface level so the corm and roots can breath.
As to what variety of banana you have, you'll just have to wait and see. |

Re: Possible Blue Java
Thanks. I definitely am just a trial and error guy. Maybe I can carefully brush back the soil to "raise" it. What do you think? It seems to be rolling pretty good but if I can help it I will. Thank you for that information.

Re: Possible Blue Java
¹OK so it's been a month.
Straight out the USPS shipping carton on June 10: One month later, July 10: 2 months after planting, August 10: Now at 3 months!!! Maybe one day I will find out what it actually is but no matter what it's one heck of a specimen so far. Can't believe how fast it's growing. Last edited by wstrickland1 : 09-10-2020 at 05:07 PM. |

Re: Possible Blue Java
This one (from them) was labeled Namwa. Note the red trim on the leaves. I love the look.

Re: Possible Blue Java
More or less the same here. All 5 plants thrive if/when I can get to them. Pisang Raja turned out to be Manzano. Manzano (different transaction) looks like something else. Jury's still it on the Double and Gros Michel.
They have never responded to my messages. Ontheotherhand, the plants ship in a reasonable time and are well packaged. Haven't attempted a replacement, though I'd like a discount on a Blue Java or one of the vines I plan to order from them. May try a walk up nursery for the Blue Java, though from what I hear on forums, it's likely they are selling Namwa too. 🤷 Drove down to Going Bananas and picked up a Blu Java a few years ago. It died. Mentioned it while talking to Don at an event and he was prepping to replace it until I explained it died from neglect (Tenants). Quote:

It came in gorgeous shape and healthy. I understand he gets Blue Javas from time to time. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from him. Great transaction with those guys!! |
