Plantain? Can someone ID if it is or isn't?

This is a plant growing in my friend's back yard in Orlando, Florida. She claims it's a plantain... can anyone tell what kind it is? Or if it's not, can anyone tell what it really is? This is the only picture I have of it.

Thanks in advance...

Re: Plantain? Can someone ID if it is or isn't?

That is 'Orinoco', not a plantain, but it is commonly used as both a dessert (raw, ripe eating) and a cooking banana. The main difference between a cooking banana and any other type of banana is just cultural use, but a plantain is a very specific genetic group of banana. "Plantain" is not synonymous with "cooking banana".

'Orinoco' is not a plantain, but makes a good cooking banana is very commonly used as plantain bananas are used.

This banana variety is very popular due to its hardiness and ease of different uses (cooking and dessert uses).
