Re: Newbie with ?'s
I uploaded a better picture so you can see the angle better. Yes, the fence is 6ft and the lowest leaf is right about that height. I'm re-reading your post and you said the newest leaf and that would not be the lowest. Ohhhhhhh that is about two feet up. So I guess that would be about 9ft. Check out the pic and tell me what you think. I really can read...and use a tape measure.
I don't think I'm too hard on myself I think you are too nice. I say this as I go out to measure for the THIRD TIME! Jen Okay, I'm back...I'm gonna revise my height and say 9ft 3inches. hee hee unless you are counting the big shoot that the flower is coming out of..is the newest leaf? That is gonna add another 6 to 7 inches. If someone else was home I could make them hold the tape measure and I could do it and take a picture. I think you will figure it out from the newest picture. thanks again. I really don't want to be giving out the wrong info and I'm lovign that I am learning all this stuff. I hope to get a couple more plants soon but I want to know more before I do so I make a good choice and give them great care. Jen |

Re: Newbie with ?'s
I am just laughing as I picture you trying to measure it and the tape measure keeps collapsing in the breeze. You will have confirmation soon though, and then it will be worthwhile. Best of luck on your first banana fruit!

Re: Newbie with ?'s
Ooo-ooh! Jen,
I saw your last photo, you need to prop that plant of yours, or it might get uprooted! Check out #10 in this link. I do not recommend the "bottle and wire method" : How to Grow Banana Plants - wikiHow There are threads on this board that have various support designs using PVC pipe. I am just now not able to access the site because I probably have too many windows open. You can do the search for "Supporting fruiting banana plant". Re: Newbie with ?'s
I was having trouble getting on the site too.
That was a great site. Now I'm all stressed out about it falling. It does look pretty pinched at the branch with the flower. My hubby will be home soon and I have a project for him. Thanks Chong! Chironex, it was VERY funny becasue it wasn't just me I was outside with my 5 year old and 2 year old. The both wanted to help. My 2 year old just picked all my blueberries when I wasn't looking so I was fussing at her and fussing at my son to hold the darn tape measure. My poor neihbors. It was pretty funny but very frustrating. Okay, I'm off to stake them because I would be so devistated if they fell. Jen |

Re: Newbie with ?'s
Jen, thanks and I envy your plant.
I have been waiting for mine to bloom. It is about 6' plus that is why I asked. I would like mine to be the edible type, but I love the look of it anyway. Good luck, and thank you. Paula |

Re: Newbie with ?'s
Jen, it sounds like you did a good job of measuring it, but just in case there are any doubts left, this picture shows where you should measure to to determine the height of the plant.
