New to bananas.

I bought a house in october 2014 that had banana plants. I didn't really pay them any mind and I figured I just had to water them every now and then. Well, Texas got a LOT of rain the last couple of months and one day I noticed a purple flower looking thing hanging off a tree. I thought it was cool and ignored it again. I don't remember how much longer after that, I noticed what were tiny things that could be bananas. Well, since then I have been researching online on how to care for these plants and all that. I don't know what kind I have and maybe you can help. I really hope they arent ornamental as now I am really into getting these things to grow and bear fruit. I just now cut the flower off since I read it needs to be cut after no more hands are growing. I think now I have to clean up the trees but I need to research on this more. I tried uploading more pics but it just keeps saying I succeeded in uploading but nothing shows.

First of all, congratulations! There are literally hundreds of people on this site who can identify your specific banana better than I can, but I am quite convinced that this is not an ornamental variety. I've seen fruit on ornamental trees, but the fruit was small and there wasn't much of it. Your fruit looks worth eating. (In case you don't already know this, it's going to be a long wait -- but worth it!)

Thanks. I was trying to post a closeup of the fruit. They don't look so enticing up close. Am at work now so I'll see what I can do about uploading it.

Ok so I figured out that some of my pictures needed to be compressed.
